In this 109 page novel Weisel give us a soul-crushing, heart-wrenching
yet uplifting story. The book may be short but it is definitely not simple.
This World War II narrative is so real, you can’t help but feel like you are a
part of it. You feel like the characters’ desperation, helplessness and defeat.
You are with them at every step, with every blow to the head. Night is a
most-read.

Favorite Books I Read Because of BookTube
(in no particular order)
·
Looking for Alaska by John Green
There was a time when everyone and I mean EVERYONE was
reading this book. This is my favorite John Green book mainly becase it made me
think. This is definitely a book that strongly depends on being read at the
right time, thankfulle I believe it was the right stage of my life for me to
read this.
·
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
This is another book that exploded on BookTube. I
loved that this wasn’t the typical ‘boy meets girl and they live happily ever
after’ love story; and its set in the 80’s so extra points for that!
·
Night by Elie Wiesel
This is a book that John Green recommended in one of
his vlogbrothers videos so I picked it up and LOVED it. As it is also in the
RGRC list there should be a review up soon!
·
La Noche que Frankenstein leyó el
Quijote by Santiago Posteguillo
This is a book by a Spanish autor that I first saw in
a Mexican booktuber’s video. The title intrigued me so I looked it up on
Goodreads and I have to say that after reading this it has become one of my
favorite books of all time. It’s so quick and easy to read and yet soooo
interesting. I highly recommended.
·
Legend by Marie Lu
I saw this book in many videos and it sounded like a
fun read. This trilogy is definitely a page turner. It manages to be a typical dystopian
story yet atypical and unique at the same time.
If you want a review on any of the books listed above
please leave a comment and let me know!
Happy reading,

The Great Gatsby – Review
This book is all about the “American Dream”. Everyone
is searching for that one thing that will make them complete. While the American
dream is based on the lack of aristocracy and the equality of opportunity this
book exposes the opposite. Carraway had his family money thanks to the fact
that his rich ancestor paid someone to fight in the civil war in his place, a
clear example of aristocracy and inequality of opportunity. I love that
Fitzgerald didn’t see wealth like the great American dream and something
everyone should strive for but instead as something that’s full of corruption.
If we look at the drunk driving accident that occurs
after one of Gatsby’s parties where a man crashes his car just a few yards away
from the house and eventually tries to continue driving even though one of the wheels
has come off we can see that in the eyes of Fitzgerald by the 1920’s the great American
dream had become the desire of enough money for fancy cars and enough whiskey
to crash them. Society revolved around parties, money and alcohol. No one was
focused on hard work or creating a society that is equal to all, even though
these are supposedly the foundation of the American spirit.
As
far as Gatsby he is a character that symbolizes hope. He firmly believes that
if he can just get the one thing he wants, that thing being Daisy, he will
finally be happy. He has devoted all his life to the pursuit of Daisy, from
accumulating a great wealth to throwing his legendary parties, all he does he
does for her. Gatsby doesn’t even drink at his parties and only uses his pool
once (at the end of the novel). All his
efforts go into getting that green light at the other side of the bay.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Review
This is one of my favorite books of
all times and one of the few I’ve read more than once. It is almost impossible
to find the words to express my feelings for this book, making this one of the
hardest reviews to write. I fell in love with each one of the characters which
hardly ever happens. Even though this book isn’t action-filled I couldn’t put
it down. I just wanted to know what happened next!
Chbosky created a world filled with
love friendship and adolescent angst. He managed to write about very heavy
topics in a way that wasn’t light or fluffy. The best fitting word I can think
of is ‘real’.
Charlie is an incredibly
well-crafted protagonist. Charlie’s hope and love of life is inspirational.
Despite all that troubles him he still hopes for his life to get better. He
wants to live. Near the end of the book he starts to think about all the
horrible things that have happened to him and his family, all the reasons why
he is who he is and how he got to where he is and he states that he looks
forward to the future and a better life.
The supporting characters are
developed just as well. The relationships between them are so vivid that you
feel as though you know them. As a result of these relationships there are some really emotional scenes. There is so much
loss and pain.
