This is one of my favorite books of
all times and one of the few I’ve read more than once. It is almost impossible
to find the words to express my feelings for this book, making this one of the
hardest reviews to write. I fell in love with each one of the characters which
hardly ever happens. Even though this book isn’t action-filled I couldn’t put
it down. I just wanted to know what happened next!
Chbosky created a world filled with
love friendship and adolescent angst. He managed to write about very heavy
topics in a way that wasn’t light or fluffy. The best fitting word I can think
of is ‘real’.
Charlie is an incredibly
well-crafted protagonist. Charlie’s hope and love of life is inspirational.
Despite all that troubles him he still hopes for his life to get better. He
wants to live. Near the end of the book he starts to think about all the
horrible things that have happened to him and his family, all the reasons why
he is who he is and how he got to where he is and he states that he looks
forward to the future and a better life.
The supporting characters are
developed just as well. The relationships between them are so vivid that you
feel as though you know them. As a result of these relationships there are some really emotional scenes. There is so much
loss and pain.
